Personal care should not be complicated
A solid, daily routine isn’t just about how you look—it’s about building confidence and forming lifelong, healthy habits.
At SAMFARMER we understand young adult physiology, cosmetic science and, just as importantly, we understand the realities of teenage life.
That’s why I’ve created this routine
Step 1: Cleanse
Most of us touch our face 50-60 times an hour, with hands and fingers that also touch walls, floors, keyboards, phones and other dirty surfaces.
Wash your face at the end of the day otherwise all that bacteria will not only sit on your skin but also transfer to your pillowcase, which will keep it for your face tomorrow night!
Don’t overdo it – use appropriate cleansers, no high % active claims, no anti-aging products.
They are not for your skin, these formulations may compromise your skin barrier and using them is a complete waste of money and absolutely pointless for teenage skin.
- A cleanser removes excess oil and dirt.
- Use an appropriate cleanser every evening.
- Keep it quick, no prolonged rubbing.
- Use a gentle flannel or face cloth.
- Consistency is key.
Good Ingredients to look for
- Glucosides
- Aloe
- Glycerin
Cleansers, by their very nature, slightly disrupt the skin barrier so you must moisturise afterwards.
Step 2: Moisturise
Everyone should use a moisturiser, even if your skin is oily, in fact especially if it’s oily.
Adolescent skin often overproduces oil due to hormonal changes. A good moisturiser helps your skin stay calm and balanced.
Why everyone needs to moisturise their skin:
- Moisturisers help prevent dehydration and irritation.
- Moisturisers reinforce the skin’s barrier and can help reduce inflammation.
- The right moisturiser for teenage skin will feel light and hydrate the skin
Good Ingredients to look for
- · Glycerin
- · Squalane
- · Aloe
- · Shea Butter
Step 3: SPF
It may not seem important now but, when you are older, the invisible damage done to your skin by the sun becomes visible – Don't believe the marketing language that claims to reverse time. We can’t reverse time.
Use a minimum of SPF 30+ broad-spectrum protection—it guards against UVA and UVB rays. In the summer use SPF 50 and strictly limit your time sunbathing.
Good Ingredients to look for
Use an SPF you like - they are all designed to do their job
Essentials: Deodorant & Teeth
Skincare gets all the attention. However, personal care includes the entire body.
Deodorant / Anti-Perspirant
- Underarm skin is sensitive—you need a formula that’s gentle but trustworthy
Look for a roll-on deodorant and anti-perspirant hybrid that isn’t sticky and dries quickly. It should also have some skin caring ingredients.
Advantages of Roll On over spray
- Applies the product directly to where you need it
- No waste
- No noise
- Lasts much longer
Brushing Teeth:
- Brushing twice a day helps to stop plaque forming
- It combats bad breath
- Protects against long-term dental issues
- Use a modern electric toothbrush and a fluoride toothpaste
Wash Your Hair:
- Your scalp produces a lot of sebum
- Unwashed hair attracts dirt and bacteria
- Wash your hair when required
- Hair DOESN'T wash itself - Watch my video
